AUS clean sweeps NZ, roars for T20 World Cup, India will have to be careful

Australia Women clean sweep New Zealand Women T20I Series: By winning the third T20 played in Brisbane by 5 wickets, Australia Women’s Cricket Team wiped out New Zealand Women’s team 3-0 in the three-match series. Playing first, New Zealand team scored 146/6 in 20 overs, in response to which Australia team achieved the target by scoring 148 runs in 19.1 overs losing 5 wickets. Australia’s Georgia Wareham (26 off 16 balls and 2/21) was chosen as the Player of the Match, while Ashleigh Gardner (51 runs and 4 wickets) was the Player of the Series.

NZ got off to a good start

Winning the toss and batting first, New Zealand got off to a good start. Georgia Plimmer added 45 runs with Suzie Bates. Bates scored 19 runs off 17 balls and was dismissed in the seventh over. Plimmer hit a half-century and scored 53 runs off 48 balls to take the score past 100 with Amelia Kerr. Amelia played an innings of 40 runs off 36 balls. However, after this, no batsman contributed much and due to this, the New Zealand team could not even cross the 150 mark and Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham took two wickets each for Australia.

Ellis Perry and Ashleigh Gardner gave the victory

While chasing the target, Australia got the first blow at the score of 26 and Beth Mooney was out after scoring 6 runs. Captain Alyssa Healy also got out after scoring 27 runs off 29 balls, while Georgia Wareham scored 26 runs off 16 balls, which included four fours. Ellyse Perry and Ashleigh Gardner shared a half-century partnership for the fourth wicket and brought the team close to victory. Perry scored 36 runs off 29 balls and Gardner scored 33 runs off 26 balls. In the end, Phoebe Litchfield (5) and Tahlia McGrath (6) finished the match in the 20th over. Eden Carson took the maximum two wickets for New Zealand.

Australia’s explosive performance must have raised the concerns of all the teams for the T20 World Cup to be held in UAE next month, especially those included in Group A. This group includes India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka along with Australia. As the defending champion, Australia will try to successfully defend its trophy.
