Michael Clarke Applauds RCB’s Gritty Fight: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pulled off one of the most memorable run chases in IPL history as they took down Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 70th and final league stage match of IPL 2025. Chasing a massive target of 228, RCB needed not just skill, but belief, and that’s exactly what they showed, according to former Australian captain Michael Clarke.
RCB’s victory wasn’t just about numbers; it was about mindset. Despite the early departure of Virat Kohli, who had been anchoring the chase with a brisk 54 off 30 balls, the team didn’t lose its spirit. Instead, they kept pressing forward, showing hunger for victory in a do-or-die situation that decided their entry into Qualifier 1.
Speaking on JioHotstar’s Kuhl Fans Match Centre Live, Clarke was full of admiration for RCB’s composure and belief. “What we saw with this RCB batting unit is that they believe they can win from any situation. They didn’t even have Tim David, who’s been key at the back end. But they just believe,” he said. “The way they played their shots and kept the intent even after Virat got out was amazing.”

Michael Clarke Applauds RCB’s Gritty Fight as Jitesh and Mayank Lead Record-Breaking Run Chase

The spotlight may have initially been on Virat Kohli, but once he walked back to the dugout, the pressure fell on Jitesh Sharma and Mayank Agarwal, and they delivered. Jitesh played a breathtaking knock of 85* off just 33 balls, smashing boundaries and rotating strike with ease. His innings was filled with clean hitting and smart placement, keeping the scoreboard ticking and the chase alive.
Mayank Agarwal, often overlooked, showed incredible calmness under pressure. His unbeaten 41 off 23 balls may not have been as flashy as Jitesh’s, but it was equally important. He built crucial partnerships with both Kohli and Jitesh, anchoring the innings at times and accelerating when needed. Together, the duo ensured that RCB stayed ahead of the required run rate.
What made the win even more impressive was the absence of Tim David, one of RCB’s top finishers this season. Without him, many expected their middle order to collapse under pressure. But the team proved its depth, with players stepping up when it mattered most.
Clarke emphasized the team’s mental toughness, especially in a high-pressure chase. “They had every reason to panic once Virat was gone. But Jitesh and Mayank were so composed. You could see they had a plan, and they stuck to it,” he said.
The win marks RCB’s highest-ever run chase in the history of the IPL and the third highest by any team in the tournament. More importantly, it secured their place in Qualifier 1, giving them a direct shot at the final.
Now, all eyes turn to May 29, when RCB will face Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. The venue, being RCB’s second home this season, could work to their advantage. However, PBKS has also shown strong form, making the upcoming Qualifier a potentially thrilling contest.
Another interesting stat going in RCB’s favor is their unbeaten away record in IPL 2025. Not losing a single match away from home this season, they’ll enter the Qualifier brimming with confidence and momentum.
With key players in form and a team that believes it can win from any situation, RCB might just have what it takes to go all the way this year. If they continue showing the same intent and resilience, even the biggest challenges won’t look impossible.
