Lucknow Super Giants suffered a crushing defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad in a thrilling match.
Abhishek Sharma’s explosive innings of 59 runs in 20 balls followed by useful contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (47 runs in 28 balls), Kamindu Mendis (retired hurt on 32 runs in 21 balls) and Ishan Kishan (35 runs in 28 balls) helped Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 6 wickets in an IPL match. With this defeat, LSG’s team was knocked out of the playoff race.
This is LSG’s seventh defeat in 12 matches and the team is at the seventh position in the table with 10 points. Sunrisers are at the eighth position with their fourth win in 12 matches. Rishabh Pant has given a surprising statement after being out of the tournament. Pant said after the defeat in Lucknow, ‘We knew that we had to fill some gaps due to injuries. As a team, we had decided not to talk about it. But the purpose was to fill the gaps. If we had the same bowling attack as we had planned in the auction, the story would have been different. Sometimes things happen according to you, sometimes not.’
Pant further said, ‘We are proud of the way we played and we will focus on the positive aspects. We have strong batting ability. For the bowlers too, there were times when they were bowling in good areas. We were trying to take full advantage of it.
We knew we were scoring ten runs less. We did well on some occasions, but could not finish the match. Rathi has done well. This is his first season. It was good to see the way he bowled. Rathi is one of the positive aspects.’
