IPL 2025 Final: As excitement builds for the final stages of IPL 2025, all eyes are now on Ahmedabad. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet made an official announcement, but sources suggest that the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is the top choice to host both Qualifier 2 and the grand final, scheduled for June 1 and June 3.

While fans wait for confirmation, the BCCI is carefully monitoring the weather across different parts of the country. The only reason behind the delay in announcing the playoff venues is the unpredictable movement of the monsoon. Ahmedabad is currently expected to remain dry in early June, which makes it the most suitable option for the high-stakes matches.

At the same time, Mumbai is under consideration for the first two playoff games, Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. However, recent rainfall and consistent overcast conditions have raised concerns about the weather. If these conditions continue, the BCCI may have to look at alternative northern cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, or Lucknow, where the weather seems more stable.

What makes this decision even more complex is the logistics of moving equipment, especially broadcast gear, which takes time and resources to set up in any new location.

Why Ahmedabad Set to Host the IPL 2025 Final

The Narendra Modi Stadium is not just the largest cricket stadium in the world, it’s also one of the most advanced. It has a history of hosting big matches, including previous IPL playoffs and major international events. The size, modern facilities, and crowd-handling capacity make it the perfect stage for the tournament’s biggest night.

Apart from the weather, logistics play a major role in this decision. BCCI does not want to move the tournament to cities that aren’t already involved in the ongoing league matches. Only six cities, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and one more yet to be confirmed, are hosting the 17 games scheduled after the IPL’s mid-season break. Keeping the final matches in these cities will make it easier to manage transportation and broadcasting operations.

Cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Mohali, and Kolkata were left out due to a mix of weather issues and practical limitations. Teams like CSK and SRH had just one home match remaining, and it was seen as inefficient to shift heavy broadcast gear to those locations for a single game.

Mohali and Dharamsala were also ruled out because of recent security concerns near the border. As a result, Punjab Kings moved their home games to Jaipur, which has now become a key venue for the remaining matches. In fact, Jaipur is hosting three matches after the break, two for Punjab and one for the Rajasthan Royals.

Kolkata is another big name that missed out. Although the city has hosted IPL finals in the past, unpredictable weather this time around made it a risky option. Since KKR had already completed all their home games, there was no strong reason to keep Eden Gardens in the mix for the playoffs.

Delhi, on the other hand, is now the temporary home ground for teams like CSK and SRH, who have just one home match left. The Arun Jaitley Stadium is expected to host both of these games. Mumbai is also being considered for some playoff action because of its central location and the fact that equipment is already stationed at Wankhede Stadium since the last game on May 6.

As IPL 2025 resumes on May 17, six cities are set to host the remaining matches: Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, and one more to be announced. Among these, Ahmedabad stands out as the most likely venue for the final, a grand stage worthy of cricket’s biggest T20 showdown.
