Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan on a five-year contract. The transfer fee is reported to be £46.3 million.

Reijnders, who is the fourth player to join City this week, said he was thrilled to become part of Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Earlier this week, Manchester City signed midfielder Rayan Cherki from Lyon and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from Chelsea. On Monday, they also brought in left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves.

Reijnders, 26, moved to AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023. He impressed during the 2024/25 season by scoring 15 goals for the Italian club.

He will help strengthen City’s midfield, especially after the exit of star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

“I’m very happy to be signing for Manchester City,” Reijnders said. “They’re one of the top clubs in the world with amazing players, a great coach, and top facilities.”

After winning the Premier League four times in a row, Manchester City finished third last season and were knocked out of the Champions League early.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admitted they “probably should have been more aggressive” in signing new players before the 2024/25 season began.

Their latest signing is part of a team rebuild that started in January, when they brought in Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Vitor Reis.

City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, said, “We’re very happy to have Tijjani with us and excited to see him play under Pep Guardiola. He brings a lot of experience from top European clubs and the Dutch national team.

Tijjani will add more energy, calmness, and creativity to our midfield. We believe working with Pep and our coaches will help him improve even more.”

Manchester City will head to the new 32-team Club World Cup as the current title holders, having won the tournament in Saudi Arabia two years ago.

Their first match will be against Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca, taking place in Philadelphia on June 18.
