CF Pachuca has announced that manager Guillermo Almada has left the club just weeks before they begin their Club World Cup journey. Almada, from Uruguay, had been with Pachuca for three and a half years. Under his leadership, the team won the CONCACAF Champions Cup last year, earning them a spot in the Club World Cup.

Pachuca also played in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in December, where they were defeated by Real Madrid.

On Wednesday, Almada said an emotional goodbye to the players, staff, and club directors. Pachuca shared the news in a statement but did not explain why he left.

In March, FIFA announced that Pachuca and Club Leon from Liga MX did not meet the rules about owning multiple clubs. Because of this, Leon was taken out of the Club World Cup.

Earlier this month, the Court of Arbitration for Sport denied Leon’s appeal to stay in the tournament.

However, Pachuca’s place in the 32-team Club World Cup, which begins in the U.S. on June 14, remains unchanged.
