Everything was set, and Brazil fans were happy to hear that Carlo Ancelotti would be their new coach. But just a few hours later, things changed. Now, it looks like Ancelotti is staying at Real Madrid and won’t be coaching Brazil after all.
Why did Ancelotti change his mind after everything seemed ready? Many reasons have been suggested. But Brazilian media outlet Globo says that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is the main reason Ancelotti won’t become Brazil’s coach.
According to the latest reports, Ancelotti met with Brazilian officials in London on Wednesday afternoon (Spanish time). Real Madrid’s president didn’t like this. He reminded Ancelotti that he has a contract with the club until 2026 and said he is expected to lead the team in the Club World Cup too.
At first, reports said Real Madrid would pay Ancelotti’s full salary until June 2026, even if he left the club early. But in the end, club president Florentino Perez changed his mind and refused. While the other directors agreed to pay Ancelotti a fee to leave, Perez did not support the idea.
Ancelotti changed his mind mainly because of one big reason. According to Globo, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez personally canceled the deal between Brazil and Ancelotti. Perez told him that if he left the club before 2026, he wouldn’t get any compensation. That meant Ancelotti would have to join Brazil without being paid to leave Madrid.
Also, another Globo journalist said Ancelotti lost interest in the Brazil job because of the country’s poor security and the unstable football federation. The problems in Brazil’s football system in recent years also played a big role in his decision.
After all the drama, reports say Brazil will no longer talk to Ancelotti. Al-Hilal coach Jorge Jesus is now the top candidate to become Brazil’s new coach.
